In this blog, we'll be exploring all the new things added in the exciting, expected Naval update for Rust! From player-made boats to enormous floating cities, we'll unpack some of the features that were predicted and delivered in the new update. Despite being delayed, the excitement for this update has well paid off!
You can now make your own boats from scraps! All you need is a wheel, an anchor, some sails, and an engine to make a boat of your own! Working as a mobile base, you can add on after it's been created with almost any deployable object. If you wish, then you can do away with the traditional base entirely, opting to living out of your boat!
With any kind of boat, including your new player-made boat, you can explore the open sea at certain times, having all kinds of new things locked behind it. Beware, however, as the deep sea is not anywhere near forgiving. You won't be able to modify your player made boats or respawn here, so proceed with caution. There are many new interesting and valuable places to explore and loot, so there is much to be gained by sailing the deep seas!
One of these new structures is the ghost ships teased, protected by scientists both on the ship and nearby it, making the threat both inside and out. On top of some crates requiring being hacked, and players potentially looming nearby, these structures will be high-risk high-reward areas.
Along with ghost ships, you'll be able to find floating cities in the deep sea. Many different things are featured on these cobbled together structures. From farm plots to harvest fresh crops, to a casino to gamble your heart out, there's many different things to see and do here. It's a safe zone for all players, meaning that there's not going to be any PVP.
One of the last major things you'll see at sea are the tropical islands. Randomly spawning on these can be rich ore veins, ruins, scientists, or all three at once, these are definitely worth visiting on your plundering on the water. While they won't usually be safe, the promise of unbound riches means you'll definitely want to stop at any of these you come across.
