We're extremely excited to announce that Dedicated Servers are now available for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, this allows you to run your own persistent world using our top-notch game server hosting.
Instead of having to host a session every time you want to play with your friends or community, you can now have a server online around the clock. This allows players to connect anytime they want to jump into the game. This is huge news as it allows players to arrange to play on a community server when they have the time to, instead of whenever the person with the save decides to be online.
This will also make some skills not require you to have the game open... I'm talking mostly about Farming, though I'm sure other skills can make sure of this. You can set a schedule or just jump in during a lunch break to harvest, then replant and close the game, knowing that everything is still ticking over.
At the time of writing, you can have six players on a Dragonwilds server at any given time. This means that the dedicated servers are more geared towards private groups or small communities, but nothing prevents more than six players being on the map. They just can't all join concurrently, hopefully in the future Jagex expands that allowance.
One thing people seem to overlook about this is the fact that you can now easily backup and restore your server, which I don't know about you, but I've had a lot of moments in Dragonwilds where my whole base has been destroyed in a raid while I'm AFK so this is an extremely exciting ability for me.
The timing lines up nicely with the new Dragonwilds update, called Dowdun Reach. We are not going too deep into that here because that deserves its own post. The expansion brings a new area with a ruined Zamorakian fortress, Black Knights, Zamorakian Mages, darker magic, and a jump to level 99 skills, an extremely exciting expansion.
