A Minecraft Movie was a movie about - you guessed it - Minecraft, that released worldwide on April 4th of this year. You've probably heard countless things about it and have likely watched it yourself, but if you're like me, you may have found yourself asking a question while watching it - am I having fun?

On the surface, this question sounds quite stupid. You may have been lucky enough to know the answer immediately, but to people who hold Minecraft close to their heart, this question may not have been so easy. To catch you up to speed, let's give an extremely brief recap of the movie.

Titular actor Jack Black plays Steve, a man who yearns for the mines. After leaving his job as a doorknob salesman, he finds two artefacts that open a portal to the Minecraft Overworld. After some time in the Overworld, Steve tames a wolf he names Dennis and opens a portal to the Nether. Steve and Dennis are captured by a piglin named Malgosha, whose desire is to get the artefacts and plunge the overworld into darkness.

Steve sends Dennis back to the normal world with the artefacts, having them placed under his bed. We are then shown the four humans, one of which has got the artefacts that Dennis had brought. The four humans then find their way into the Overworld, one of which accidentally breaks one of the artefacts, sealing them into the Minecraft world until they find a replacement. Once Malgosha hears of this, she releases Steve, bargaining that he brings her the artefacts in return for the safety of his pet wolf.

The group eventually meets up with Steve, embarking on a journey to a woodland mansion to get a replacement for the broken artefact. Once there, the protagonists find a replacement and embark on the journey home. Leaving the woodland mansion, they are ambushed by Malgosha as she steals the artefacts from them, beginning the darkening of the Overworld. The group assembled an army of Iron Golems and wolves to attack the piglin army, taking the artefacts back just in time and returning home.

All in all, A Minecraft Movie could be considered a harmless children's film, as that is exactly what it is. I'm still on the fence on how I feel about it, but I know one thing for sure; I wanted to one‑up Steve's builds!

You can one‑up his builds too on our premium Minecraft Server Hosting, offering 24/7 support, DDoS protection, and high-quality hardware.
